A new EES system has started working at the EU border: what will change for Ukrainians.
The State Customs Service of Ukraine has warned citizens about the beginning of new checks at the Polish-Ukrainian border, as reported by 'Khvylia'. From November 3, a new pan-European entry and exit registration system (EES) began to operate, replacing the old stamps in passports when crossing the borders of the Schengen area.
New border crossing rules
According to inkorr.com: According to the new rules, Ukrainians and citizens of other countries planning to stay in EU countries for up to 90 days must now undergo digital registration. The system will record the time, date, and place of crossing the border, as well as collect biometric data such as photographs and fingerprints for individuals over 12 years old.
The introduction of the EES is aimed at enhancing security, speeding up border control, and accurately accounting for the duration of foreign citizens' stay in the Schengen area. The new system will help detect violations of stay periods more effectively and simplify control over migration flows, reports the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex).
Recommendations for travelers
Travelers should also familiarize themselves with the new rules, consider potential queues, and plan their trips with adequate time. It is necessary to have with them documents that confirm the purpose of the visit and the duration of stay to avoid misunderstandings during registration. The gradual implementation of the EES will also extend to other control checkpoints in EU countries in the coming months.
The new registration system at the EU border is designed to enhance security and control migration flows in the Schengen area. Ukrainians and foreign citizens should be aware of the new rules to avoid misunderstandings and inconveniences when crossing the border.
