Ukrainian kickboxer Hlib Mazur makes history: first 'gold' at the World Games.
Ukrainian kickboxer Hlib Mazur became the champion of the World Games 2025. He won gold in the weight category up to 63.5 kg, setting a historic record for Ukraine in this sport, reports the News.LIVE portal.
In the semifinals, Hlib Mazur faced Thai representative Kongthuk. After even bouts in the first round (1:1), the Ukrainian took the initiative in the second round, counterattacking skillfully. The winner was determined in the final round, where Mazur maintained his lead and won.
How Hlib Mazur became the champion
In the final, Hlib competed against Guliyev from Azerbaijan, demonstrating confident play and strategy. He refrained from his opponent's attacks and controlled the course of the fight, which earned him a well-deserved victory and 'gold' at the tournament. This was the twelfth gold medal for Ukraine at the World Games 2025.
The Ukrainian team also received a boost in the medal standings, maintaining third place thanks to two bronze medals from Daria Ivanova and Alina Martynyuk, as well as in the final of Roman Shcherbatiuk against Emin Ozer.
