Ukrainian gymnasts performed in the final of the Olympics: competition results.

The penultimate final of the third competitive day for our athletes has concluded. Gymnasts competing in the team all-around fought for the awards.

Illia Kovtun, Oleg Verniaiev, Ihor Radivilov, Nazar Chepurnyi, and Radomyr Stelmakh consistently completed all 6 apparatuses and scored 254.761 points in total. This result turned out better than in the qualifications, however, it was not enough to secure a higher position - the Ukrainian team finished fifth.

However, the main battle was for the highest category of awards, where Japan and China decided who would win the first gold of the Olympics in the team all-around. The Chinese performed very confidently on their first 5 apparatuses and had a huge advantage over the Japanese. Everything changed on the horizontal bar when the Chinese team's reserve gymnast, Weide Su, fell off the apparatus twice and finished with a low score of 11.6 points. This mistake led to a sensational outcome of the team tournament, as Japan won the gold, and China settled for the silver. The bronze went to the United States team.
