German Military to Receive Training from Ukrainian Instructors on Countering Russian Tactics.
Ukrainian Instructors to Train German Armed Forces
According to UATV: In a significant shift, Ukrainian military instructors will begin training Germany's armed forces, leveraging their direct combat experience against Russia. This initiative follows warnings from German intelligence that Russia could launch a major attack on NATO by 2029. Lieutenant General Christian Freuding highlighted a critical gap in current training materials regarding real-world warfare with Russia, underscoring the unique value of Ukraine's battlefield knowledge for modern military conflicts. This move reflects a broader European effort to integrate hard-won, contemporary warfighting expertise into NATO's defensive preparations.
Expanding Security Cooperation
Since 2022, Germany has trained Ukrainian forces on various weapons systems, including Marder infantry fighting vehicles, Leopard tanks, howitzers, and air defense systems, as part of its support for Ukraine's defense. Concurrently, three teams of Ukrainian experts have already been deployed to the Middle East to assist countries in countering Iranian drones. Notably, Saudi Arabia has signed a contract potentially worth millions of dollars to purchase Ukrainian air defense equipment.
Christian Freuding emphasized that 'the unique experience of the Ukrainian military is now needed across Europe more than ever.'
This points to a growing recognition of the necessity for military experience exchange in the face of modern threats. Julia Klöckner also noted that 'the European Union realistically assesses the risks of hybrid warfare, cyberattacks, and sabotage,' highlighting the importance of transferring advanced military and technological know-how from Ukraine to EU nations.
These initiatives demonstrate deepening security cooperation between Ukraine and Germany, which could become a crucial step in strengthening the defensive capabilities of European countries. In the context of a heightened security situation in Europe, this training arrangement reflects new realities in continental military collaboration. The process may not only enhance Germany's military readiness but also bolster NATO's collective security posture. Furthermore, Ukraine's active role in international security programs underscores its emerging position as a key player within the global defense community.
