Ukrainian karatekas Maria Gnes and Anna Vashchishin refused to take a joint photo with a Russian athlete on the podium during the awards ceremony at the competition in Venice. This was reported by 'Champion'.
The Ukrainians competed at the Karate 1 Youth League tournament of the World Karate Federation (WKF).
Maria Gnes from Chernivtsi reached the final in the 'junior' category, where she lost to the Russian Veronika Gashnikova with a score of 3:4.
Anna Vashchishin from Lviv fought against Maria Gnes in the quarterfinals and lost. However, she later won the fight for 'bronze'.

Thus, the Ukrainian athletes won silver and bronze medals, while the Russian athlete received gold. They all took the podium together during the awards ceremony.
However, after the medal ceremony, Gnes and Vashchishin refused to take photos with Gashnikova.
It should be noted that Russian biathletes are facing a serious shortage of quality foreign ammunition, which negatively affects their results, reported Russian RBC. World champion 2017 Anton Babikov spoke about this problem.
After the mass start at the International Club Biathlon League Cup, where Bibikov placed 23rd and made eight misses, the athlete linked his failures to the quality of the ammunition. Babikov also stated that if the situation does not improve, he may end his career.
