Ukrainian Forces Target Ilsky Oil Refinery in Russia and Military Sites in Occupied Territories.
Operations by Ukraine's Defense Forces
According to UATV: On the night of February 17, 2023, Ukraine's Defense Forces struck the Ilsky Oil Refinery, located in Russia's Krasnodar Krai. This facility has a total primary oil refining capacity of 6.6 million tons per year. The strikes also targeted Russian logistical and military installations in occupied Ukrainian territories. These deep-strike capabilities are a key component of Ukraine's strategy to degrade Russia's war effort far from the front lines.
Among other targets hit in the attacks were the areas of Rozivka and Lyubymivka in Zaporizhzhia Oblast. Additionally, logistics and supply (MTO) warehouses in Donetsk and near the settlement of Lydyne were struck. Ukrainian forces also hit a communications node belonging to the 127th Motor Rifle Division, situated near the settlement of Zelenopil.
Strategic Objectives and International Support
These actions are part of Ukraine's ongoing efforts to counter Russian aggression on its own and occupied territory. They highlight the continued intensity of combat operations in this protracted conflict. Strikes on strategic assets like oil refineries aim to cripple the enemy's resources and demonstrate Ukraine's ability to project force deep into Russian-held areas.
This phase of the war underscores the critical importance of sustained international support for Ukraine, as prolonged fighting demands vast resources and advanced technology. The conflict has evolved into a war of attrition where targeting industrial and logistical infrastructure plays a significant role.
