Ukraine Strikes Russian Bastion Coastal Defense System: A Sea Change in the Black Sea.
Bastion Breach
According to Novyny.live: Ukrainian forces have successfully targeted a Russian Bastion coastal defense system, a key asset used to launch ballistic strikes against Ukraine. This hit marks a significant shift in the current military landscape, as Moscow’s military has heavily relied on these Bastion systems since the start of the year for operations inside Ukraine.
Unfinished Ships and Stalled Ambitions
Meanwhile, Russian occupying forces are attempting to leverage industrial facilities in Kerch to complete the construction of landing ships. However, the Russian Navy continues to face severe resource constraints. Recent reports confirm the destruction of the missile vessel Askold while it was still in dry dock.
Current Maritime Situation
As of today, the waters of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov remain calm for civilian shipping. According to Ukrainian Navy spokesperson Dmytro Pletenchuk,
'the enemy currently maintains no units in either the Black Sea or the Sea of Azov.'This underscores the absence of active naval combat in these areas.
Over the past 24 hours, Ukraine’s naval forces have repelled 17 aerial attacks, demonstrating strong effectiveness in securing the airspace. Separately, data indicates that Russians have illegally exported roughly 2 million tons of Ukrainian grain in 2025, highlighting ongoing economic and military challenges in the region.
Commenting on the difficulty of locating Russian combat units, Dmytro Pletenchuk noted:
'Catching such a machine is quite difficult, given that they avoid using public roads, so it takes a lot of luck and hard work.'This statement underscores the complexity of military operations when the adversary actively employs diverse tactical methods.
The successful strike on the Bastion systems reflects the growing effectiveness of Ukraine’s military in air and coastal defense. Eliminating such assets can significantly reduce the enemy’s ability to strike Ukrainian territory. At the same time, the situation regarding occupation forces in maritime zones remains stable, which may indicate a strategic advantage for Ukrainian forces in this region.
