New Border Crossing Rules for Ukrainian Drivers Entering Romania.
Updated Requirements for Drivers Crossing into Romania
According to Novyny.live: Ukrainian motorists now face stricter regulations when entering Romania, particularly regarding mandatory vehicle technical inspections. Border authorities may now request proof that a vehicle has passed compulsory technical checks—a measure aimed at improving road safety and reducing accidents.
Essential Documents for Crossing the Border
Drivers must prepare a specific set of documents before attempting to cross. These include:
- A biometric passport or valid visa;
- Vehicle registration certificate;
- International insurance policy;
- Health insurance;
- Documents explaining the purpose of the trip.
Men aged 18 to 60 are required to carry military registration papers. If the vehicle is not registered in the driver’s name, a notarized power of attorney authorizing its use is also mandatory.
Additionally, any cash exceeding €10,000 must be declared. Ukrainian citizens can stay in Romania for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. A medical insurance policy covering at least €30,000 is a prerequisite for entry.
There are also restrictions on what goods can be brought into the country. Prohibited items include:
- Meat and dairy products;
- Honey;
- Narcotics;
- Weapons;
- Counterfeit goods;
- Animals lacking proper veterinary documentation.
These changes reflect a broader effort to tighten border security and enhance safety between Ukraine and Romania.
The introduction of mandatory technical inspection verification, cash declaration rules, and product import bans signals a growing focus on road safety and border control. For Ukrainian travelers, these updates mean more thorough preparation and compliance with new protocols before crossing into Romania.
