Crossing into Moldova: Updated Requirements

According to Novyny.live: Drivers planning to travel from the Odesa region into Moldova must meet specific border-crossing requirements. A key condition is having a valid vehicle technical inspection certificate, issued after a check at an accredited inspection station.

Beyond the inspection certificate, entry into Moldova also requires the following documents:

  • A foreign or biometric passport,
  • A driver's license,
  • Vehicle registration certificate,
  • An international 'Green Card' insurance policy,
  • A vignette for using Moldova's roads.

Travelers should also be aware of restrictions on bringing certain goods into the country. Prohibited items include:

  • Weapons,
  • Narcotic substances,
  • Prescription medications without supporting documents,
  • Meat and dairy products,
  • Honey,
  • Seedlings and plants without the necessary permits.

Border Checkpoint Upgrades

Four border checkpoints with Moldova have recently undergone modernization, which is expected to improve crossing conditions. Additionally, a bypass road roughly 10 kilometers long is planned for the Odesa region, with an estimated cost between 10 and 20 billion hryvnias.

Drivers should ensure they have all required documents ready to facilitate a smooth border crossing into Moldova.

The updated crossing requirements and checkpoint upgrades reflect growing travel interest between Ukraine and Moldova. At the same time, new infrastructure projects like the bypass road could enhance logistics and convenience for drivers, potentially boosting trade and cooperation between the two countries. Following border-crossing rules will remain essential for traveler safety and comfort.
