Ukrainian judoka Balievsky won bronze at the Grand Prix in Peru: all the details.
According to inkorr.com: Ukrainian judoka Yevheniy Balievsky won a bronze medal at the Grand Prix in Peru. This was reported by 'Glavkom', based on data from the Ukrainian sports database.
Five judokas are representing Ukraine at the American stage.
Yevheniy Balievsky climbed to the podium in the weight category over 100 kg, winning two matches, but lost in the semifinals to the renowned Czech, two-time Olympic champion Lukas Krpalek.
In the medal match, Balievsky defeated a representative from Finland and became a bronze medalist.
Nikita Holoborodko (up to 66 kg) and Mykhailo Svidrak (up to 81 kg) also performed quite well, but could not win medals, finishing in 5th place.
Also competing were Dilshod Khalmatov (up to 60 kg) and Anton Savitsky (up to 100 kg).
Successful performances at the European Youth Olympic Festival
Ukraine ranked 10th in the overall medal tally of the European Youth Olympic Festival, winning 5 gold, 8 silver, and 10 bronze medals.
This is already the second-best achievement of Ukraine in the history of participating in festivals since 1993. The country won more medals only in 2019 - then there were 25 awards.
Judo was the sport that brought the most medals: Ukrainian athletes won six medals, including bronze in the mixed team tournament.
In addition to judo, medals for Ukraine were earned by representatives of swimming (2 gold, 2 silver, and bronze), athletics (gold, silver, and 2 bronze), taekwondo (2 silver and bronze), shooting (silver and bronze), artistic gymnastics (silver and bronze), and table tennis (bronze).
On the last day of the competitions, the Ukrainian team won another medal - bronze, which was claimed by Mykola Rushchak from Sumy in the 20 km race walking.
In the overall medal count, Ukraine took 14th place, earning 12 medals: 4 gold, 3 silver, and 5 bronze.
Thus, Ukrainian athletes demonstrated a high level of training and endurance in international competitions, especially in judo.
