June 6 Attack on Ukraine

According to UATV: On June 6, the Russian military launched a large-scale assault on Ukraine, deploying 272 combat drones. As of 8:00 AM local time, preliminary reports indicate that Ukrainian air defense forces successfully intercepted or neutralized 249 of these unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The attack originated from multiple launch points, including Crimea and the Russian regions of Oryol, Kursk, Bryansk, Primorsko-Akhtarsk, Millerovo, and Gvardeyskoye.

The drone types involved included the 'Shahed', 'Gerbera', 'Italmas', and others. Despite the high interception rate, 19 drones managed to strike their targets across 11 distinct locations. Additionally, debris from downed drones fell on 13 separate sites, causing further damage and hazards.

“According to preliminary data as of 8:00 AM, air defense forces have destroyed or suppressed 249 enemy UAVs,” stated representatives of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

In a separate incident on June 5, Russian forces struck a gas station in the Kherson region, killing one woman and injuring seven others.

The Critical Need for Stronger Defenses

The June 6 assault ranks among the largest drone attacks since the conflict began, signaling an escalation in Russian military operations. While Ukraine's air defense systems demonstrated remarkable effectiveness, the successful strikes on infrastructure and populated areas continue to pose a serious threat to civilian safety. This latest wave of attacks underscores the urgent need for enhanced defensive capabilities and sustained international support for Ukraine as the war persists.
