Ukrposhta raises tariffs on parcels to the USA: what will change for senders

According to inkorr.com: Ukrainians using postal services need to be prepared for a rise in delivery tariffs for parcels sent by 'Ukrposhta' to the USA. The company's press service reported that tariff changes could range from 1.5 to 3 dollars depending on the category and weight of the cargo.

Cancellation of de minimis rule

From August 29, the de minimis rule is canceled in the USA, which allowed parcels valued up to 800 dollars to be imported duty-free. This prompted many European postal services to suspend shipments to America. However, 'Ukrposhta' claims that Ukrainian sellers will be able to continue sending their orders to the USA without restrictions.

In particular, Ukrainian goods will become 10% more expensive for Americans due to the introduced tax. Shipping will also become more expensive, but only to compensate for the costs associated with customs paperwork.
  • A 10% tax on Ukrainian goods is the lowest among European countries, creating competitive advantages for Ukrainian exporters.

Exemptions for certain shipments

These changes will not affect letters, newspapers, postcards, and gift parcels valued up to $100. Private companies in the USA are introducing new fees and raising existing ones, however, 'Ukrposhta' does not plan to impose additional costs for its clients.

'The U.S. customs is intensifying control, so exporters need to indicate the actual value of the goods when preparing the shipment,' they noted at 'Ukrposhta'.

Thus, tariffs for parcel delivery to the USA through 'Ukrposhta' will rise due to the cancellation of the de minimis rule, which will lead to increased costs for Ukrainian exporters and American buyers. At the same time, 'Ukrposhta' assures that it will not introduce additional fees for its clients.
