Ukraine's Railway Seeks New Name for Kyiv-Kovel Train as Fleet Modernization Continues.
Ukrzaliznytsia Upgrades Rolling Stock Despite War
According to Novyny.live: Even amid the ongoing conflict, Ukrainian Railways (Ukrzaliznytsia) is pushing forward with fleet improvements. The company has scheduled the modernization of train 097, which runs between Kyiv and Kovel. This move is part of a broader effort to enhance passenger service and maintain reliable rail connections across the country.
In addition to the technical upgrades, the railway operator has launched a public vote to choose a new name for this flagship train. Passengers can now pick from four proposed options:
- Forest Song
- Svityaz
- Volyn
- Shatsk Lakes
This initiative gives travelers a direct say in the rebranding process, as the chosen name is meant to symbolize the train's fresh start and upgraded service.
New Routes and Service Improvements
Ukrzaliznytsia has also added 12 new routes to its summer schedule, improving connectivity between cities. Three trains have been accelerated, and four routes have been extended to reach mountainous regions, catering to travelers' growing demand for scenic destinations. Furthermore, eight daytime trains have been converted to daily service, offering passengers greater convenience and flexibility. These changes reflect the company's commitment to raising service quality and meeting customer needs.
The modernization of rolling stock and expansion of routes demonstrate Ukrzaliznytsia's readiness to adapt to shifting conditions and passenger requirements, even during wartime.
By involving the public in naming the train, the company is strengthening communication with its customers, which could boost its reputation and overall satisfaction with rail services. These steps may also play a key role in rebuilding and advancing Ukraine's railway network once the conflict ends.
