Umerov announced the arrival of six F-16 fighters from Norway.
Ukraine's Defense Minister Rustem Umerov announced the arrival of six Norwegian F-16 fighters in Ukraine.
This information became known after Umerov's meeting with Norwegian counterpart Bjørn Arild Gram during the Ukraine-NATO Council session in Brussels.
According to Umerov, during the negotiations, the situation on the front line and Ukraine's needs, particularly in long-range weapons, were discussed. The ministers also reached "specific agreements" to strengthen air defense.
"A separate focus – the aviation component. In particular, enhancing our capabilities with F-16 fighters. Norway will continue support and provide Ukraine with six aircraft in the near future," noted Umerov.
Umerov also proposed that Norway join in directly financing Ukrainian defense enterprises and take "patronage" over one of the Ukrainian Armed Forces brigades for its training and equipping.
The decision to transfer six F-16 fighters to Ukraine was made by the Norwegian government back in July. It was then reported that the first aircraft should arrive during 2024.
Previously, the Netherlands also announced sending their F-16 fighters to Ukraine, but the exact number of transferred aircraft was not specified.
It also became known that F-16 fighters might undertake their first combat sortie in Ukraine.
