Andre Ward ready to end eight-year retirement to fight Anthony Joshua.
According to The Sun: Andre Ward is ready to return from an eight-year retirement to meet Anthony Joshua in the ring.
Ward ended his career in 2017, remaining an undefeated world champion in the super middleweight and light heavyweight categories.
AFPHowever, he decided to turn to social media, offering Joshua a fight, stating:
“There are many names, but not so many that make sense. However, there is one name I've mentioned before, and when you say that name, I can envision a fight with him today.”
“If everything goes right, then it’s me and Anthony Joshua. That’s a fight I would accept at Wembley Stadium. It’s a dangerous fight for my legacy, a dangerous fight overall, but it’s a fight that would make me get in the gym and prepare to be ready for war.”
Joshua, for his part, accused Ward, whose record stands at 32-0, of seeking a “payday,” but added:
“Don’t come asking for millions to fight me. Put your pride before your ego and let’s fight.”
Ward ended his career after two controversial wins over Sergey Kovalev and admitted that Joshua would be his best opponent for a return to the ring.
He spoke on Ariel Helwani’s show:
“It wasn’t a challenge; I just honestly said who I would return with if I came back, and I usually don’t mention names.”
“I get asked constantly: who? Who? For some reason, people think I can still make 175 pounds. No, that’s not realistic. I struggled to make 175 in 2017.”

“I’m 41 now. But it’s that kind of situation that’s dangerous enough to get you ready, and it’s the right situation if I had to come back.”
The Joshua Situation
Joshua, 35, hasn’t stepped into the ring since September 2024 when he was knocked out by Daniel Dubois, 28.

However, Joshua is likely looking for other options for a return in 2026, as Paul, 26, announced an exhibition fight on November 14 against lightweight Gervonta Davis, 30.
Ward, meanwhile, has taken to commentary in retirement, but continues to struggle with the temptation to return to the ring. He noted:
“I’ve been on the sidelines for eight years. It comes in waves. Most days, I’m content with where I am. Most days I’m fine doing what I do.”Meanwhile, the developments between Ward and Joshua create a competitive atmosphere in the boxing world. Their possible meeting in the ring draws attention from fans eager for this major bout. If Ward’s return is successful, his fight with Joshua could become a true celebration for sports lovers.
