The container ship that collided with the Francis Scott Bridge in Baltimore is required to pay the US government over $100 million in damages. This was reported by the BBC referring to the US Department of Justice.

The companies Grace Ocean Private Limited and Synergy Marine Private Limited, owners and operators of the vessel "Dali", agreed to pay, resolving a civil lawsuit that lasted a month.

The payments will be made to the US Treasury and other federal agencies that were directly impacted by the collision or were involved in handling the aftermath of the disaster.

«This is a tremendous outcome that fully compensates the United States for the expenses incurred in addressing the aftermath of this disaster, and holds accountable the owner and operator of the vessel «Dali», – stated Brian Boynton, head of the Civil Division of the Department of Justice

The Department of Justice stated that the agreement does not cover compensation for damages related to the reconstruction of the Francis Scott Key Bridge. The state filed its own lawsuit for these damages.

On March 26, Baltimore, an American city, was in the global spotlight when a container ship hit the largest local bridge. The Francis Scott Key Bridge was destroyed as a result of the collision. At that moment, several vehicles were on the bridge. Images of the damage to the large structure circulated worldwide.

«Glavcom» told the story of the bridge, explained what made it special, and analyzed the chronology of events on March 26.

Recall that in the state of Oklahoma, a barge also collided with a bridge over the Arkansas River. This was the second similar incident in a week.
