The conviction of the former Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation was due to embezzlement and legalization of criminal proceeds. Timur Ivanov received 13 years of imprisonment and a fine of 100 million rubles, also losing his state awards. His subordinate, Anton Filatov, was sentenced to 12.5 years and a fine of 25 million rubles for embezzlement. Both men were accused of corruption in the purchase of ferries and the withdrawal of billions of rubles from the bank.As a result of this sentence, it was highlighted that corruption is indeed widespread at high levels of power in Russia, and affected parties have the opportunity to seek compensation for damages incurred. This case is just one of many that reveal the problem of corruption and abuse within Russian governmental structures.
