Category 4 hurricane named "Milton" is rapidly approaching the western coast of Florida. According to the US National Hurricane Center, it is expected to make landfall on Thursday night and become an "extremely dangerous major hurricane".
As of Wednesday afternoon, the hurricane's wind speed was 210 km/h. It is forecasted that "Milton" will hit the shore between Tampa and Sarasota, bringing a catastrophic storm surge up to 4 meters high.
The Governor of Florida has declared a state of emergency and ordered millions of residents to evacuate from coastal areas. "If you have been told to evacuate, please evacuate immediately," urged the US Vice President.
It is forecasted that "Milton" will bring heavy rains amounting to 15-30 cm and hurricane-force winds across the peninsula. Several tornadoes have already been reported in southern Florida.
The US President stated the federal government's readiness to provide comprehensive support to overcome the hurricane's aftermath. More than 50,000 repair workers from all over the country have been mobilized to restore power in the affected areas.
