Dangerous Labubu Toys: How to Spot a Fake and Avoid Risks to Your Child.

According to The Sun: Experts have issued warnings about dangerous counterfeit Labubu toys that put children at risk. Fake versions of collectible monster toys contain cancer-causing substances and create choking hazards.

Fake Labubu toys, known as Lafufus, are being sold nationwide at prices below the average £30. The original plush toys from the Chinese company Pop Mart are often sold out, leading to the emergence of a counterfeit market.

Trade standards officials expressed concern after seizing over 600 fake Labubu toys from two firms in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset. Sasha Watson, a representative from the Suffolk trade standards engagement service, emphasized the dangers of these counterfeit toys, warning about the high levels of harmful substances in them.

James Potter, manager of the Isle of Wight trade standards and community safety service, also noted the risks associated with these counterfeit dolls, highlighting that they may look appealing but can be dangerous to children's health. Businesses found selling these fake toys may face enforcement actions and possible prosecution.

The government’s Office for Product Safety and Standards noted that these counterfeit dolls pose a choking risk, as various parts can easily detach. This presents a serious threat if children were to put them in their mouths.

How to Identify a Fake Labubu Doll

• Carefully inspect the packaging - look for UKCA or CE markings, information about the importer or manufacturer within the UK, and the presence of warnings and instructions for use.
• Look for authenticity markers - original Labubu dolls from Pop Mart have a holographic sticker, a scannable QR code linking to the official website, and a UV stamp on one foot for newer editions.
• Check the appearance of the product - bright colors, poor stitching, and incorrect details, such as the number of teeth (original Labubus have nine), are signs of a counterfeit.
• Beware of lowered prices - fake toys may be cheaper but create serious safety risks, including choking hazards and toxic materials.
• Shop from reputable retailers and avoid unknown online sellers or third-party vendors on marketplace websites.

Fake Labubu toys not only endanger children's health from the moment they are handled but may also lead to unwanted consequences if they are not identified and recalled promptly. Careful inspection and purchasing products only from trusted stores are key steps to ensuring your child's safety.
