American tennis player broke down in tears after injury: unique victory from the restroom.
Adrian Mannarino reached the 1/8 finals of the US Open
According to The Sun: The French tennis player Adrian Mannarino discovered his advancement to the 1/8 finals of the US Open unexpectedly - when he came out of the restroom!
The 37-year-old athlete was given a place in the next round as American Ben Shelton withdrew due to an injury to his left shoulder.
ReutersShelton, 22, got injured while making a forehand in the second game of the fourth set at Louis Armstrong Stadium on Friday. Leading the match 2-1 in sets, he requested a three-minute medical timeout, received a massage from his coach, and took painkillers before deciding to continue the match.
Bravely playing for another 45 minutes, he realized that Mannarino won the sixth set and moved the match into the fifth set. Then he decided to stop.
Shelton's father, Brian, a former professional player, advised his son not to take risks, as the injury could have serious consequences.
After the fourth set ended, Mannarino left the arena for a few minutes, and upon returning, he learned that the match had finished, and he shook hands with Shelton.
Although he knew his opponent was suffering from pain, Mannarino was surprised that the game did not end on the court.
Shelton, who was born in Georgia but now lives in Florida, sat in his seat crying as he left the arena with a towel on his head.
Mannarino, ranked 77th in the world, will face Czech tennis player Jiri Lehecka, seeded number 20, in the next round. The winner is likely to face Carlos Alcaraz in the quarterfinals next week.

Mannarino couldn't hold back his smiles:
“I am 37 years old, it's the first time I've won a match from the restroom!”
“There are always new things coming up. I still enjoy my time on the court. I hope to continue for some time.”
Despite everything, Mannarino respects his opponent
“Of course, when he started to feel pain, he was leading in the match. Honestly, he probably would have won that match.”
“I feel bad about it, but I'm still very happy. Yes, I don't know what to say. Of course, I'm glad to move on. I wish him all the best.”
“I had a good time on the court, there were really long rallies. I won some of them and lost others. It was quite cool.”
“Ben plays very well. Earlier this summer he crushed me. It was a great match.”
“Even when I was losing, it was a tight match. Thank you all for your kindness toward me.”
