Oleksandr Usyk recognized as the best boxer of 2024
According to the information portal BoxingScene, Oleksandr Usyk has been named the best professional boxer of 2024. The Ukrainian athlete became the absolute world champion in the heavyweight division, which is a significant achievement in his 24-year career.
In 2024, Usyk defeated Tyson Fury twice. The fight in December ended with a unanimous decision victory for the Ukrainian. This win allowed Oleksandr to confirm his status as the absolute world champion in heavyweight. He defended the WBA, WBC, WBO, and IBO titles.
Usyk expressed gratitude to his mother and all the mothers of Ukraine who have always supported him. This is already his seventh fight in the heavyweight division and his fourth successful title defense.
Oleksandr Usyk also stated that he plans to continue his career after winning against Tyson Fury. The athlete feels ready for new challenges.
In turn, Tyson Fury expressed disagreement with the judges' decision regarding Usyk's victory. He disagrees with their assessments of the fight.
According to Oleksandr Usyk's manager, the return of the Ukrainian boxer to the ring can be expected in late July or August 2025. He plans to continue training after the end of April next year.
