An ancient population of people discovered in Argentina: it existed for over 8000 years.
According to ТСН: Researchers have discovered an ancient lineage of people in Argentina that existed in the country for over 8000 years and mixed minimally with other groups.
Research of ancient DNA
Scientists analyzed DNA obtained from the bones of people who lived in the Pampas region over the last ten millennia. The oldest samples belong to an individual buried near the city of Jesus-Maria, approximately 8500 years old. This discovery allowed scientists to identify a distinct genetic lineage previously unknown.
Historical significance of the finding
Scientists emphasize that this group persisted as a key ancestral component in the central part of the country for eight millennia. This discovery offers a new perspective on the settlement of one of the last regions in the world where modern humans arrived. The ancient lineage formed diverse cultures and languages, spreading from central Argentina southward.
Cultural mixing
About 3300 years ago, this lineage mixed with the population of the Pampas and became its dominant ancestor. Although contacts with other groups occurred, scientists note that this population generally remained isolated.
“This is an important episode in the history of the continent that we simply did not know about,” said the lead author of the research, Javier Maravall.
This discovery adds another piece to the large mosaic of human history, particularly in South America. It helps to better understand how cultures and cultural expressions, as well as their languages, were formed over the millennia, which in turn influenced the modern genetic structure of the population. Scientists continue to explore how these ancient cultural features may impact the present.
