Three Men Executed in Iran

According to Novyny.live: Iran has put three men to death, including national wrestling team athlete Saleh Mohammadi. The executions followed rulings by the Supreme Court amid widespread unrest across the country. Alongside Mohammadi, Mehdi Ghasemi and Saeed Davoudi were also executed. All three were convicted of killing two police officers and of 'moharebeh'—a charge under Iranian law that translates to 'enmity against God.'

Protests and Their Aftermath

The protests in Iran began in December and spread to over 180 cities. Human rights groups estimate that at least 7,000 people have died during these demonstrations, including more than 200 children. Saleh Mohammadi’s execution marks the first carried out in connection with the protests, signaling a serious escalation in the government’s crackdown on demonstrators.

Just before Mohammadi’s execution, Iran also put to death a Swedish passport holder accused of espionage. These events highlight the growing tensions in the country and the authorities' increasingly harsh response to the protests.

The execution of three men, including a prominent wrestler, could significantly influence the trajectory of protest sentiment in Iran, where public discontent is already on the rise. The government appears intent on demonstrating its resolve to suppress the unrest, which may trigger further waves of violence and repression. International reactions to these developments will also be critical, as they could shape Iran’s political landscape and its relations with other nations.
