The Minister of Spain has called for the creation of an EU army: Europe must act independently.
According to ТСН: The Spanish Foreign Minister, Jose Manuel Albares, has called for the establishment of a European army and deeper integration of the defense industry, emphasizing that this will allow the continent to act independently and improve security.
"We must have our own means of deterrence, without dependence on third parties," Albares stated in an interview, highlighting the importance of integrating the defense industry and moving towards the establishment of a joint army.
The Minister drew attention to global challenges and attempts to weaken existing international rules.
"We see attempts to change the rules of the international order in the actions of the US in Venezuela or their claims regarding Greenland," he noted.
He specifically emphasized support for Ukraine and firmly condemned Russia's aggression.
"The only threat to Ukraine and Europe's security is the Russian troops in Ukraine. Neither Ukraine, nor the EU, nor NATO has ever posed a threat to Russia," the minister emphasized.
Albares also stressed the importance of European leadership and strategic autonomy, criticizing far-right forces that seek to undermine the European Union and subvert democratic principles.
Additionally, he advocated for the reform of the United Nations, supporting the idea of electing a new Secretary-General from Latin America, preferably a woman, to better align the UN with contemporary challenges.
It was previously reported that the Acting Chair of the Munich Security Conference, Wolfgang Ischinger, considers direct negotiations between Europeans and the Russian government to be pointless at this time.
It was also noted that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky pointed to the strike by "Oreshnik" on Lviv region, emphasizing how Russian dictator Putin threatens European countries.
Albares focuses on the current security issues in Europe and the need for collective action to counter new challenges. His initiatives could become significant for further cooperation between European states in the context of security crisis.
At the same time, the statement of the Ukrainian president about threats from Russia highlights the importance of support from Europe to strengthen Ukraine's defense capabilities and ensure stability in the region.
