Peace Memorandum Signed by the U.S. and Iran: Key Terms of the Agreement.
Washington and Tehran Reach a Memorandum of Understanding
According to Novyny.live: A memorandum of understanding aimed at ending hostilities—including conflicts in Lebanon—was signed by U.S. President Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron at the Palace of Versailles in France. The document, which took effect on June 17, is written in both English and Farsi.
What the Memorandum Entails
Under the terms of the agreement, both parties commit to respecting each other's sovereignty and non-interference, while the U.S. agrees to lift its naval blockade within 30 days. Additional provisions include:
- a phased restoration of safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz;
- a freeze on Iran's nuclear program until a final deal is signed;
- coordinated security measures across the Persian Gulf region.
The two sides have 60 days to finalize a comprehensive agreement. As part of this process, an economic reconstruction package for Iran—valued at over $300 billion and backed by the U.S. and its partners—is on the table. Sanctions would also be gradually lifted under the final accord.
Donald Trump: 'It's signed. It's signed at Versailles. We just signed it.'
Esmaeil Baghaei highlighted the importance of the memorandum, stating: 'This represents the highest level of transparency in our public communication.'
This memorandum could mark a significant step in reducing tensions across the Middle East, given the long-standing hostilities between the U.S. and Iran. Commitments to restore safe shipping through the Strait of Hormuz may also positively impact global energy markets, as the waterway is a critical artery for oil transport. If successfully implemented, the agreement could open new avenues for economic cooperation and regional stability.
