Air in Kyiv is polluted: high levels recorded on the Left Bank

According to inkorr.com: On September 1, a medium level of air pollution was recorded in Kyiv. This was reported by the Kyiv City State Administration, referring to data from the Department of Environmental Protection and Climate Change Adaptation.

According to information from city authorities, the air pollution level on the right bank of the Dnipro is considered medium, while in some areas of the left bank it is elevated. The radiation background in Kyiv remains normal.

Right Bank:

  • European Union Avenue, 64-H – the overall air quality index is 69 (medium level);
  • Shchuseva Street, 20 – 75 (medium level);
  • Turivska Street, 28 – 59 (medium level);
  • Beresteysky Avenue, 55 (medium level);
  • Kytaivska Street, 22 – 55 (medium level).

Left Bank:

  • Kharkiv Highway, 7/1 – 63 (medium level);
  • Architect Verbitsky Street, 26 – 75 (high level).

The Kyiv City Administration noted that the main cause of the increased pollution level may be meteorological conditions that contribute to the accumulation of harmful impurities in the lower layers of the atmosphere. In particular, this is related to the low wind speed.

Kyiv residents are advised to take the following measures to improve the situation:

  • close windows;
  • limit time spent outdoors;
  • drink more water;
  • use air purifiers if possible.

The Common Air Quality Index (CAQI) is automatically calculated based on the levels of several key pollutants: PM2.5 and PM10 (dust particles), SO2 (sulfur dioxide), NO2 (nitrogen dioxide), O3 (ozone), CO (carbon monoxide). The lower the CAQI, the better the air quality.
