In Russia, demographic statistics have been classified due to the war.
In Russia, the publication of information about the number of deceased citizens has been prohibited. The apparent reason for such actions by the is the huge losses on the fronts of the war in Ukraine.
This was by the publication 'Current Time'.
Putin acts like Stalin
The Russian authorities have begun to conceal information that may demonstrate the enormous number of losses of the occupying army in the war in Ukraine.
Thus, in the traditional Review of the Socio-Economic Situation in Russia, released in July 2025 and dedicated to information for May of the current year, the section 'Demography' is completely absent.
What information the authorities are hiding from Russians
The authorities have prohibited the publication of information not only about the number of deaths but also about birth rates, the number of marriages and divorces, migration, and, ultimately, the total population of the Russian Federation.
'We have been completely deprived of information about the number of people in the country, how many are born, how many die... It is one thing when data that may be a reason for sanctions is closed. But it is completely different when data that concerns only us, Russians, is closed.' — complained Russian analysts.
The announcement prohibiting the publication of information about demographic indicators in Russia indicates that the authorities are trying to suppress the spread of negative information regarding the losses of the Russian army during the war in Ukraine. This may indicate a difficult situation in the country and a low level of trust in the government among citizens.Read also
