In Ukraine, the procedure for military personnel to receive prosthetics has been streamlined: what has changed.
The Cabinet of Ministers approved changes that expand the opportunities for military personnel to receive high-functional prosthetics.
From now on, combatants will be able to receive high-functional prosthetics without the need for initial prosthesis fitting, if recommended by a multidisciplinary rehabilitation team (MRT), as well as in all cases of high limb amputation or double amputation.
High-functional prosthetics utilize modern technologies and innovative materials that restore basic functions and enable complex movements and actions. Previously, such a prosthetic could only be obtained 12 months after initial fitting.
The Cabinet of Ministers has also revised the conditions for using prosthetics obtained during initial fitting for military personnel returning to service. Now, the prosthetic can be used for up to three years.
The list of military liners for stumps - parts of limbs remaining after amputation - has been doubled.
Additionally, the regulation of information about high-functional prosthetics obtained through charitable or humanitarian aid has been standardized to the Centralized Database of Disability Problems (CDBDP).
The Cabinet of Ministers has reduced the list of documents that prosthetic and orthopedic enterprises submit to the Social Protection Fund for providing high-functional prosthetics to military personnel.
For combatants, the maximum cost of high-functional prosthetics covered by the state has been increased. Depending on the level of amputation, the maximum price for an upper limb prosthesis is nearly 4.3 million UAH, and for a lower limb - up to 3.8 million UAH.
The list of high-functionality products that Ukrainians who have suffered severe injuries can receive has been expanded to include:
- shoulder prosthesis with an external power source and electronic elbow joint;
- prosthesis after disarticulation at the shoulder joint with an external power source and electronic elbow joint;
- modular thigh prosthesis with Genium X3 knee joint with electronic control;
- modular-type prosthesis after disarticulation at the hip joint with Genium X3 knee joint with electronic control.
Military personnel will be able to more quickly receive state-funded high-functional prosthetics and orthoses, including upper limb prostheses with an external power source and lower limb prostheses of higher functionality.
