Ukraine to change the duration of schooling.
The Ministry of Education and Science has announced a large-scale reform of specialized secondary education, which will come into effect in 2027. The main change will be the transition to 12-year schooling to expand opportunities for in-depth study of subjects and practical training of students.
Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Oksen Lisovyi revealed details of the upcoming reform during a public discussion.
He emphasized that it is very important for students to acquire knowledge through their own experiments and basic research.
"Therefore, as much practice as possible is what is embedded in the concept of senior school," he said.
The reform envisages not only a change in the duration of studies but also an update of the material and technical base of schools. The Ministry is working on recommendations for equipping educational institutions with modern equipment, particularly for science classrooms.
"The Ministry of Education, together with its partners, faces an enormous task - to form a package of documents that concerns both lists and standards, and to provide new educational programs that we are laying down in the senior specialized school. The school must be physically different," Lisovyi noted.
The reform will focus on the development of student subjectivity and their preparation for entry into higher education institutions. This will make the transition between school education and university smoother and provide graduates with a clearer understanding of their chosen specialty.
Let us recall that earlier Oksen Lisovyi spoke about plans for the operation of schools in case of possible power outages.
