Can Russian Forces Breach Ukrainian Defenses in the Intense Fighting Near Lyman?.
Current State of the Lyman Front
According to UATV: Heavy combat continues in Donetsk Oblast’s Lyman sector, where Russian troops are attempting to break through Ukrainian lines. Despite these assaults, the city of Lyman remains under the control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). The situation in this area is highly volatile, with active clashes reported near the settlements of Yampil and Ozerne.
The AFU is holding the line largely thanks to the efforts of the 60th and 63rd separate mechanized brigades. Ukrainian forces also maintain control over the following towns and villages:
- Drobysheve
- Stavky
- Zarichne
- Ozerne
- Dibrova
Russian forces committed to the Lyman axis include the 1st Tank Army, as well as the 20th and 25th Combined Arms Armies. The 25th Army has been assigned responsibility for securing Lyman itself.
Enemy Tactics and the Region’s Strategic Importance
The adversary is attempting to pierce Ukrainian defenses using small assault teams of 5 to 10 soldiers. Additionally, Russian units are working to seize control of logistics routes along the Novoselovka–Yarova line. Despite the high-pressure environment, Ukrainian troops are holding their ground, demonstrating resilience in the fight for this critical area.
The Lyman sector is of vital importance to both Ukrainian and Russian forces, as control over this region could significantly shape the next phase of combat operations in Donetsk Oblast. The AFU continues to actively counter enemy breakthroughs, underscoring the strategic weight of this front in the broader military campaign. The area’s significance is driven not only by ongoing battles but also by the supply corridors that sustain both sides of the conflict.
