Murder of the president of the Cypriot club “Karmiotis”
According to inkorr.com: Stavros Dimostenus, president of the football club “Karmiotis”, was brutally murdered near his home, police reported, citing Lenta Cyprus.
According to Lenta Cyprus, two unknown assailants attacked Dimostenus's car, stopping him on the road with a white vehicle. At the time of the attack, he was driving with his son named Stavros.
Two unidentified criminals obstructed Dimostenus on the road with a white van. More than ten bullet holes were visible on the roof and windshield of his Rolls-Royce. Shell casings from a 7.62 mm caliber automatic weapon were also found at the crime scene.
The police discovered a burned van under one of the bridges, which was likely used by the criminals during the attack. Forensics showed that this vehicle was stolen in Nicosia on September 4.
Tragic consequences of the attack
After the attack, Dimostenus's son tried to take his injured father to the hospital, but their vehicle was involved in an accident, resulting in the businessman dying before emergency services arrived.
The case is being viewed as intentional murder. Previously, the “Karmiotis” club was relegated from the top division of the Cyprus Championship after the 2024/25 season. Stavros Dimostenus had been leading the club since 2023.
These tragic events raise questions about safety in the world of sports, especially among football executives. The murder of the club president has led to the loss of an important figure in world football, and the case will be investigated to find the perpetrators and prevent similar incidents in the future.
