The United Kingdom to Ban Services for Russian Gas: How This Will Impact Kremlin Revenues.
Ban on Services for Exporting Russian LNG
According to inkorr.com: The United Kingdom is preparing legislative measures that will prohibit companies from providing services such as shipping and insurance for the export of Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG). This decision was made with the aim of reducing the financial resources of the Kremlin and providing support to Ukraine in the context of the war.
The UK Foreign Office has announced plans to complicate Russia's access to companies serving the LNG export. The measures are set to be implemented gradually by 2026 in close cooperation with European partners.
In October, the European Union adopted new sanctions against Russia, which impose a ban on the import of Russian LNG starting January 1, 2027. Additionally, the UK will allocate 13 million pounds for the recovery of Ukraine's energy sector and support for Ukrainians affected by the loss of heat and electricity.
“The ban will be gradually introduced throughout 2026 in sync with our European partners,” said the UK Foreign Office.
“Previously, the UK and the USA had already imposed sanctions against the two largest Russian oil companies - 'Lukoil' and 'Rosneft'.
Thus, the United Kingdom plans to impose a ban on services related to the export of Russian liquefied natural gas to support Ukraine in its struggle and limit Russia's financial capabilities. This step will complement similar actions by the European Union and already imposed sanctions against Russian oil companies.
