Blocking Telegram Channels in Ukraine Is Technically Impossible, Says Lawmaker Venislavsky.
Challenges of Restricting Telegram Channels Under Discussion
According to Espreso.tv: Ukrainian MP Fedir Venislavsky has addressed the difficulties surrounding the blocking of Telegram channels, emphasizing that the necessary equipment is extremely expensive and cannot be deployed quickly. He stated that currently, there is no technical way to block even those channels that are openly anti-Ukrainian.
'Blocking Telegram channels requires extremely costly hardware that is very challenging to install in a short timeframe' - Fedir Venislavsky.
Venislavsky also voiced concerns about the potential threats posed by the existence of such channels. 'This could become a threat to national security, so I personally believe we must bring order to this situation,' he added.
The Importance of Information Security
It is worth noting that the Verkhovna Rada's subcommittee on cyber protection and cybersecurity is chaired by Fedienko. Meanwhile, on June 17, Serhiy Sterenko reported a change in ownership of the Telegram channel 'Trukha'. This shift in ownership has become a pressing issue in the context of information security. Seyara Kurshutova, who was under sanctions from Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council from 2021 to 2024, has also been mentioned in connection with this situation.
The discussion around blocking Telegram channels underscores the critical need to ensure information security in Ukraine, especially given the threats from anti-Ukrainian sources. Venislavsky's remarks highlight the necessity of developing technological solutions to counter disinformation and manipulation that could endanger national security. The ongoing changes in ownership of such channels further emphasize the importance of monitoring the country's information landscape.
