Hungarian Opposition Party Tisza Ousts Ruling Fidesz in Polls Ahead of April Vote.
Hungary's Political Landscape Shifts
According to UATV: With parliamentary elections scheduled for April 12, Hungary's opposition party Tisza has surged ahead of the ruling Fidesz-KDNP alliance, capitalizing on growing public discontent. January polling data shows 40% of respondents backing Tisza, compared to 33% for Fidesz-KDNP, while the Our Homeland party secured 4% support. This shift occurs against a backdrop of increasing protest sentiment in the country.
Among committed voters, the figures are even more striking:
- 49% are prepared to vote for Tisza,
- 41% support Fidesz,
- 5% back Mi Hazánk (Our Homeland).
Since November, Tisza's support has climbed by 1%, while Fidesz's has fallen by the same margin, indicating a tangible realignment in the nation's politics. This is a significant development in a country where Fidesz, led by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, has dominated for over a decade.
A Tight and Tense Race
The survey reveals a tight race in terms of perceived victory: 44% of respondents believe Fidesz-KDNP will win, while 39% think Tisza will prevail. This perception gap underscores the high-stakes nature of the contest, with the opposition seeking to convert public dissatisfaction into a decisive electoral advantage.
Tisza's rising support highlights the mounting political tension in Hungary, which likely reflects broader socio-economic concerns troubling the electorate.
As the election nears, all parties are expected to intensify their campaigns to sway undecided voters and consolidate their bases, making the coming weeks critical for shaping Hungary's future political direction.
