Ukrainian Soldier Shot by Russian Occupiers

In the Bakhmut direction, Russian occupiers allegedly shot a wounded serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine who fell into their captivity, law enforcement officers have started an investigation. This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General. 

According to operational data, while performing a combat mission in the Bakhmut district of Donetsk region, a Ukrainian soldier was presumably wounded. After some Time, Russian occupiers seized the building where he was located and took the fighter captive.

The unarmed defender, who was lying on the ground, was shot by Russian military.

It has been preliminarily established that everything happened around 10:00 on Friday, September 6, near the "Phenol Plant" on the territory of a settlement named New York.

Investigators opened a criminal case for the violation of the laws and customs of war, combined with intentional murder, under part 2 of article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The Office of the Prosecutor General emphasizes that the killing of prisoners of war is a gross violation of the Geneva Conventions and is classified as a serious international crime. 

It should be reminded that on October 13, 2024, the Office of the Prosecutor General initiated a criminal proceeding regarding the alleged shooting of nine Ukrainian prisoners of war in the Kursk region. 

“The killing of prisoners of war is a gross violation of the Geneva Conventions and an international crime. An investigation has been initiated into the violation of the laws and customs of war, combined with intentional murder,” said Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin.

Kostin noted that the Office of the Prosecutor General is doing everything to identify and punish all perpetrators of the crimes Russia commits against Ukraine.
