Cash Requirements for Foreigners Entering Ukraine and the EU.
Proof of Financial Means: What Foreigners Need to Know
According to Novyny.live: Foreign nationals planning to enter Ukraine or European Union member states must meet specific cash thresholds to prove their solvency. These rules are crucial for travelers to understand before crossing borders, as failure to comply can result in denied entry.
For Ukraine, the minimum cash requirement is set by Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 884, dated December 4, 2013. Travelers must carry an amount equal to 20 times the official subsistence minimum per person. As of 2026, that subsistence minimum is 3,328 Ukrainian hryvnias, meaning visitors need at least 66,560 hryvnias in cash for a one-month stay. Importantly, funds held in bank accounts do not count toward this limit; only physical cash is accepted.
Financial Thresholds for EU Member States
Beyond Ukraine's rules, foreigners must also meet varying cash requirements for entering the European Union. For example:
- 300 Polish zloty for trips up to four days in Poland;
- 56 euros per day for entry into Slovakia;
- 50 euros for entry into Romania;
- Approximately 3 euros per day for entry into Hungary.
These amounts serve as proof that travelers can support themselves financially during their stay in the EU.
To ensure smooth border crossings, foreigners must be ready to present evidence of their financial resources, adhering to the cash norms set by each country. This requirement aligns with Article 9 of the Law on Border Control, which governs entry procedures.
Understanding the financial entry requirements for Ukraine and EU countries is essential for foreign travelers. It helps prevent unexpected issues at the border and ensures compliance with the legal regulations that control entry into these nations.
Both Ukraine and EU states aim to regulate migration flows effectively, making it mandatory for foreigners to meet these financial standards.
