Ukrainian Skeleton Athlete Vladyslav Heraskevych to Establish Fund for Fallen Athletes' Families.
Vladyslav Heraskevych Announces Support Initiative
According to Novyny.live: Ukrainian skeleton racer Vladyslav Heraskevych has announced a new project to provide financial aid to the families of Ukrainian athletes who have lost their lives. This initiative will be launched in connection with his participation in the 2026 Winter Olympics, despite the fact that the athlete has already been disqualified from competing in those Games. Heraskevych was awarded the Order of Liberty by the President of Ukraine for his sporting achievements and his support for the country.
The plan involves creating a permanent fund to provide ongoing support for the families of deceased athletes. The first step in realizing this initiative will be an international fundraising campaign organized in partnership with the German initiative, Athletes for Ukraine. Heraskevych emphasized the project's importance, noting that his competition helmet featured the names of 24 fallen athletes' families. He added, however, that the actual number of athletes lost is far greater, and society must remember their sacrifice.
“We are launching a fundraiser together with a German organization that unites athletes. We want to create a permanent fund to help the families of fallen athletes and support them on a regular basis. There were only 24 families on my helmet, but in reality, there are many more fallen athletes, and we must remember that,” stated Vladyslav Heraskevych.
Social Responsibility in Sports
This project aims not only to support families but also to raise awareness of the tragedies that have befallen Ukrainian sports. The initiative highlights the crucial role of social responsibility in athletics, especially as numerous Ukrainian athletes have perished due to the ongoing war. Heraskevych's effort could become a significant step in aiding families who have lost loved ones and in drawing international attention to their needs. The collaboration with the German Athletes for Ukraine initiative also demonstrates the solidarity of the global sports community during these difficult times for Ukraine.
