Ukrainian taxi drivers face fines of up to 5100 hryvnias: for what reason.
According to inkorr.com: In Ukraine, taxi drivers who refuse to serve passengers in Ukrainian may face fines ranging from 3400 to 5100 hryvnias. This was revealed by Olena Ivanovska, the Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language, on her Facebook page.
Reasons for the introduction of fines
The incident that underlies these measures occurred in Kharkiv. There, a taxi driver refused to communicate with a passenger in Ukrainian and turned off the Russian music in the car. According to Ivanovska, the driver used propaganda statements and violated the rights of Russian-speaking citizens.
“The language of service for passengers in transport is the state language,” emphasized the expert.
How to report violations
Taxi drivers who do not comply with language legislation risk receiving a fine. Olena Ivanovska urged taxi services to pay attention to the language rights of passengers and quickly respond to complaints. Reports of violations can now be sent via an electronic form on the website of the Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language, who takes necessary measures to resolve the issue and hold violators accountable.
These steps indicate that the rules for using the state language in transport in Ukraine are becoming increasingly strict. Drivers and taxi services must be cautious to avoid sanctions for violating citizens' language rights. Therefore, it is important to comply with the new requirements to ensure comfortable communication in all areas of life.
