Stricter Vehicle Inspection Checks for Drivers from Odesa Region at Moldova Border.
Advice for Drivers Traveling from Odesa Region
According to Novyny.live: Drivers in the Odesa region planning a trip to Moldova should ensure their vehicle documents are in order, particularly the technical inspection certificate. Moldovan border guards have intensified scrutiny of these certificates. Without one, your car may be denied entry, potentially causing major disruptions to your journey.
Required Documents and Prohibited Items
The new, stricter technical inspection checks apply to all vehicles crossing the border. In addition to the inspection certificate, you will need the following to enter Moldova:
- A biometric or foreign passport;
- A driver’s license;
- The vehicle registration certificate;
- An international 'Green Card' insurance policy;
- A vignette (road tax sticker).
If you are traveling with a child, you must have their passport or birth certificate, along with a notarized consent form from the other parent for the child to leave the country.
Be aware that certain goods are banned from being transported across the border. These include:
- Weapons;
- Narcotics;
- Prescription medications without a doctor’s prescription;
- Meat;
- Dairy products;
- Honey;
- Seedlings without the proper documentation.
On the morning of March 22, heavy traffic jams were reported on the Odesa-Reni highway heading toward the Moldovan and Romanian borders. The worst congestion occurred near the Palanca and Starokozache crossing points. Drivers should factor these delays into their travel plans.
“The introduction of new requirements for vehicle technical inspections reflects a tightening of controls by Moldovan border authorities, which could impact the ease and speed of crossing the border.”
To avoid delays or being turned away, drivers should prepare well in advance by making sure they have all required documents. Given the reported traffic jams on the Odesa-Reni highway, careful route planning and choosing the right departure time are also crucial for a smooth border crossing.
