Ukrainian elderly drivers may face new rules for driving vehicles.

The Verkhovna Rada is considering draft law No. 8082, which proposes setting age restrictions for drivers inspired by the experience of the European Union.

According to the proposal, drivers aged 65 and over will have to undergo regular cognitive function tests to confirm their ability to drive a car safely. The bill proposes stricter requirements for drivers aged 70 and 75.

The authors of the initiative claim that such measures are already being implemented in EU countries, where elderly drivers undergo annual tests. The purpose of these checks is to ensure road safety and timely identify potential health issues that may affect driving quality.

If a driver fails to pass the necessary tests, they may be deprived of the right to drive. However, the final decision on specific restrictions has not yet been made, as lawmakers continue to discuss the details of the bill.

Road safety experts emphasize the importance of regular medical check-ups for drivers of all age categories, especially elderly people. They take into account natural changes in the body that may affect reaction and attention while driving.

Drivers are advised to stay informed about possible changes in legislation and be ready for new requirements, as ignorance of the law does not exempt from responsibility.
