Admission to postgraduate studies will not provide deferment: who will lose the right to education.
Restrictions on deferment rights for conscripted men
According to Novyny.live: In Ukraine, there are plans to restrict the right to deferment for conscripted men aged 25 and older who are entering higher educational institutions. This initiative is linked to the preparation of draft law No. 13634, which aims to eliminate formal grounds for avoiding service.
Draft law No. 13634 is currently being prepared for a second reading in parliament. It is important to note that before the onset of the great war, around 500 men applied for admission to postgraduate studies each year, but in 2024 this figure rose to 90,000. This indicates a significant interest in higher education among youth; however, the new rules could substantially change the situation.
Impact of new rules on education
The restrictions will affect not only postgraduate students but also master's students who also plan to continue their studies in higher and vocational education institutions. Entrance examinations have become significantly more complex, further complicating the learning process for future students.
As noted by Serhiy Babak, "This is a matter of the country's survival".
In the conditions of military circumstances, the new admission rules may have serious consequences for young people striving to obtain an education.
Restrictions on the right to deferment for conscripted men entering higher educational institutions may significantly impact the educational prospects of youth in Ukraine. In the context of the growing number of those wishing to study, the new rules may change the balance between obtaining education and military service, which is crucial for the future of the country. This also highlights the challenges faced by Ukrainian society in wartime and the need to find compromises between education and the defense of the state.
