Ukraine Joining the EU by 2027 Is Unrealistic: A More Likely Timeline Emerges.
Ukraine's Path to EU Membership Under Scrutiny
According to Espreso.tv: Yuliia Sirko, a member of Ukraine's parliament from the 'Holos' party, has cast doubt on the feasibility of Ukraine joining the European Union by 2027. She argues that the EU's existing bureaucratic procedures make this target unattainable, suggesting a more realistic timeframe would be 2029 or 2030.
'I think they are unrealistic, most likely, given the procedures that exist in the European Union,' she emphasized.
Meanwhile, Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar has expressed willingness to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to discuss Ukraine's EU integration. The meeting is scheduled for May 29, and Magyar indicated that if Kyiv guarantees compliance with demands regarding national minorities, it could facilitate the integration process.
Discussions on Ukraine's EU Integration Continue
On June 2, the European Union deliberated on Ukraine's integration and the potential opening of the first negotiation cluster. These developments highlight active interest in Ukraine's European integration, despite expressed doubts about timelines and bureaucratic hurdles.
The situation surrounding Ukraine's EU integration remains complex, with various politicians offering differing opinions on accession timelines. The significance of the meeting between Ukrainian and Hungarian leaders indicates that regional countries continue seeking ways to support Ukraine's integration, even as bureaucratic obstacles may prolong the process. Prospects for the coming years depend on Ukraine's ability to meet EU requirements and the political will of European partners.
