Deadline for applying for child benefit in the UK: parents of children aged 16+ should hurry.
The deadline to continue child benefit payments is approaching: all parents must act
According to The Sun: If your child is between 16 and 19 years old, you need to reapply for child benefit.
Payments will automatically stop on August 31 or after your teenager's 16th birthday, unless parents update their application when the child continues their education.
Parents have until August 31 to inform HMRC of their child's plans to avoid the cessation of child benefit payments.
The Chief Executive of HMRC, Myrtle Lloyd, stressed the importance of submitting your application on time: 'Teenagers can be expensive, and child benefit is an important source of income for your household.'
This is important as the benefit amounts to a significant sum of money - up to £1,354 per year for the first or only child, and up to £897 per year for each additional child.
Don't forget to update your application by August 31 if you wish to continue receiving this assistance.
What is child benefit?
Child benefit is provided to parents raising children under 16 or under 20 years of age if they are in full-time education or training.
Designed to help cover the costs of child care, this support is £26.05 or £17.25 per week, depending on the number of children.
It is important to submit your documents on time, as they can be crucial in supporting your household.
