In the first semi-final, world number 204 Valentin Vachero shocked Novak Djokovic, becoming the lowest-ranked Masters 1000 finalist in history. After that, he watched as his cousin Arthur Rinderknech knocked out Daniil Medvedev, thus ensuring a family final.

Both players had never previously reached the quarter-finals of a Masters 1000, but now they are ready to take to the court to showcase their abilities in this thrilling match.

Vachero, 26, rested after an impressive victory over the 24-time Grand Slam champion and watched Rinderknech's match with his girlfriend Emily Snyder. Rinderknech, 30, celebrated his victory by falling on the court, while Medvedev, after double faults, argued with the umpire again.

When the former US Open champion left the court, Vachero eagerly awaited the chance to step onto the court to share this special moment with his relative.

Vachero, representing Monaco, and Frenchman Rinderknech embraced, realizing their unmatched achievement. Rinderknech shared on social media, posting a childhood photo with Vachero captioned:

“Puissance [Power] 1000,”
adding a kissing emoji.

On the court, he said:

“In our best dreams, we could not have imagined this, so I can’t even say it’s a dream because I don’t think even one person in our family dreamt of this.”
“So, it wasn’t a dream, it was just a dream that came out of nowhere. We started to believe in it, I would say, in the quarterfinals, maybe…”
“Now we are here, we went through many matches and somehow we both stayed at the end, so it’s just incredible.”

Both played collegiate tennis at Texas A&M University, but unlike Rinderknech, who has a highest ranking of 42, Vachero has never been in the top 100 and has only played in a Grand Slam tournament once.

He didn’t even make the main draw of the Shanghai Masters or qualify, but entered as a backup player.

Incredible Achievement of Vachero

Vachero displayed fearless play, knocking out four-time champion and outstanding player Djokovic, who had health issues. Vachero noted:

“I’m trying to pinch myself, is this real?”
“I’m not realizing [what happened], so I can’t say anything about it.”
“It’s just madness. First of all, being on the opposite court [from Djokovic] was an incredible experience.”
“It was an hour and 40 minutes of pure enjoyment, even if not many people wanted me to continue.”
