Van Gaal's Awkward Comment
Van Gaal, noticing the resemblance of the couple's four children to their father, made a comment that stuck in Rooney's memory. In a new episode of 'Wayne Rooney's Show', he recounted:
“I loved him, he was very funny. The first time he met Coleen, we were at lunch with all the players, wives, girlfriends, staff. He approached Coleen and said: ‘Your children look a lot like their father.’ She said: ‘Yes.’ And he continued: ‘He has very strong sperm.’ This was the first time he met her!”
Rooney took the situation with humor. He also noted that Van Gaal was a great coach who brought many bright moments during his time at the club.
Issues During Farewell
However, soon after winning the FA Cup, Van Gaal was dismissed. Rooney shared his memories of this event:
“In my opinion, his wife probably found out during the break. We won the cup, celebrated, and Louis was standing there with his wife looking very sad. This is absolutely not his style.”
Rooney noted that he and the team felt respect for Van Gaal even in tough moments:
“It was tough because we respected him. He told us to come for breakfast at 8 in the morning the next day when we were all hungover.”
Rooney emphasized that despite the dismissal, he respected Van Gaal for his professionalism right until the end:
“I probably learned more from him than from anyone else.”
