According to The Sun: Sunday will be a special day for legendary cyclist Geraint Thomas as he will compete in his last race on home soil. The 39-year-old Geraint became the first Welshman and third Briton to win the Tour de France in 2018, and five months later received the 'Sports Personality of the Year' award.

Who is Sarah Ellen Thomas?

Sarah Ellen Thomas from Cardiff, Wales, is the younger of two children in the family of Beth and Ifan. She has a close relationship with her family and brother Rhys. Sarah met Geraint through mutual friends, although she recalls that during their first two meetings he was not entirely presentable. She was nicknamed 'King D***' for her rare appearances at events with him early in their relationship. She studied physiology at the University of Liverpool and is fluent in Welsh. The couple has a son named Maxen, who was born in 2019.

Who is her husband Geraint Thomas?

Geraint Thomas was born on May 25, 1986, in Cardiff, Wales. He began cycling at the age of 10 and quickly found success in junior competitions, which allowed him to join British Cycling's Olympic Academy. In 2006, he won his first medal at the UCI Track Cycling World Cup. He debuted at the Tour de France in 2007, becoming the first Welshman to participate in this event in 50 years, and also competed at the Olympics in Beijing in 2008, where he won gold in the team pursuit, setting a world record. At the Rio 2016 Olympics, Geraint was unable to win a medal due to a crash on the final descent. In 2018, he became the first Welshman to win the Tour de France.

Now his bright cycling career ends on September 7. Geraint will ride from Newport through the valleys of Abbey and Rhymney, before finishing in Cardiff near the Royal College of Music and Drama.

When did the couple get married?

Sarah admitted that it took her time to fall in love with Geraint, but from that moment on, they never looked back. She recalled their first meeting: “The first two times I met Geraint, he was not quite presentable, so it’s hard to say that it was love at first sight. However, I liked him, and the more I got to know him, the more I fell in love.” The couple met through mutual friends in 2007 and got married in 2015 at St Tewdrics House, Wales. They currently reside in Monaco, a popular place for cyclists and athletes, but plan to return to Cardiff.
