Unexpected defeat of Kierren Wilson at the Grand Prix in Sian

According to The Sun: Kierren Wilson suffered a heavy defeat against Shawn Murphy in the 1/16 finals of the Grand Prix in Sian. This defeat became one of the worst in his career.

Murphy dominated his opponent with a score of 5-0, scoring 533 points in a row. Wilson failed to make a single shot in this match.

If a few balls had hit, Murphy could have broken the world record of 556 unanswered points set by Ronnie O'Sullivan during the championships in 2014.

Season start and off-table issues

This defeat was a shock for the entire snooker world, although the 43-year-old Murphy rightfully receives praise for his play at the Ciucian Sports Center.

Wilson, who is ten years younger than Murphy, still ranks second in the world standings after Judd Trump, but part of his earnings from the World Championship in May 2024 will soon disappear.

He currently ranks 16th on the annual list with £57,000.

Recently, Wilson suffered an unexpected defeat against 19-year-old Stan Moody at the British Open, and previously he was eliminated by Robbie Williams at the London Open.

At the beginning of August, Wilson won the Shanghai Masters, earning £210,000, but without rankings, which makes it difficult to start the season.

Fatigue may have been a reason for his results, as last year, as the world champion, he participated in almost all competitions, leading to physical exhaustion.

Home front issues

Wilson remains an honest player and is not trying to downplay the importance of the situation. After his defeat by Murphy, while talking to his brother Taylor, he noted:

“Credit where credit is due. It was snooker from the heavens. This form deserves trophies.”

However, off the table, in Kettering, the Wilson family has problems. He recently shared that his wife Sophie underwent surgery during his stay in China.

Although Wilson does not justify his poor play with existing problems, the situation at home coincided with his worst start to the season in many years.

He added:

“I had a tough time off the table. My wife was very ill. I have not played snooker for about four to five weeks.”

Now he must rely on his fighting skills to get out of this difficult situation.

A series of defeats threatens his position in the world rankings. Wilson, who once gained recognition as a competitive player on the international stage, now faces a tough period on his way to regaining form. It is important that he can restore his game while trying to find a balance between personal life and professional career, as he still has many competitions ahead of him.
