Passengers Urged to Arrive Early at EU Airports

According to Novyny.live: Yvonne Moynihan, the head of Wizz Air, is advising travelers to get to EU airports well ahead of their flights due to extended queues triggered by new border inspection procedures. The EU’s newly implemented Entry/Exit System (EES) does away with the old practice of manually stamping passports, and this shift has dramatically slowed down how quickly passengers can be processed.

Impact of the New EES Framework

Under the updated rules, non-European travelers now have to provide fingerprints and have their photos taken at border control. This extra step has made crossing borders more cumbersome and, as a result, wait times have soared. A survey covering 45 airports across 20 EU nations found that the EES has caused holdups of up to three and a half hours.

She also noted that 'Wizz Air recommends passengers show up at the airport three hours before departure' to steer clear of potential issues and delays. This suggested arrival time highlights how crucial it is to factor in these new conditions when planning trips.

The rollout of the EU’s EES, which involves fingerprinting and photographing travelers, has fundamentally altered border control procedures, leading to major delays for passengers. With passenger numbers climbing and these fresh requirements in place, following airline guidance is key to ensuring smoother, stress-free journeys. This situation underscores the need to adapt to evolving international travel rules and the importance of budgeting extra time to avoid stressful experiences.
