The ship has impressive dimensions: over 250,000 tons in weight and 365 meters in length, making it the largest in the world, surpassing its predecessor, Icon of the Seas.
The launching ceremony took place on August 29, 2025. During the event, speeches were made by representatives of the shipyard and Royal Caribbean, and a valve-opening competition was held, allowing the dry dock to be filled with water.
After a 12-hour filling process, the giant ship emerged and headed to the dock for finishing touches before its debut.
Impressive Features of the Ship
Legend of the Seas resembles a floating city more than a regular ship. It boasts over 40 dining and entertainment venues, as well as the largest water park at sea – Category 6, a sky track, a ropes course, and numerous attractions.

At the bow of the ship is a massive glass and steel AquaDome, along with 'Pearl' – a large art installation with numerous moving tiles.
“Legend of the Seas continues the Icon class, allowing the Finnish maritime industry to showcase its unique expertise at the highest level,” said Kasimir Lindholm, CEO of Meyer Turku.
The ship, powered by liquefied natural gas, is also equipped with fuel cells, shore power capabilities, and heat recovery systems. This is part of Royal Caribbean's mission to launch a zero-emission cruise ship by 2035.
Prospects and Routes
Legend will operate during its first season in the Mediterranean, visiting popular destinations in France, Italy, and Spain. The ship will then cross the Atlantic to debut in the USA before beginning Caribbean routes in the winter season of 2026-27.
This ship is the third in the revolutionary Icon class. Royal Caribbean also plans to release a fifth and sixth ship of this class, further expanding this record series.
For the Finnish shipyard Meyer Turku, the launch represents another significant milestone. This yard will become a global center for cruise ship construction and supports thousands of jobs, utilizing a vast network of partners.
