From 16 years behind the wheel: the Ministry of Internal Affairs has named the age for driving a car in Ukraine.
The legislation of Ukraine establishes clear age limits for the right to drive different types of vehicles. According to the Main Service Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the lowest age limit is set for two-wheeled transport - 16 years. Thus, teenagers aged 16 and older can operate mopeds and motorcycles. To drive a passenger car or a truck, one must wait until adulthood. Driving vehicles with heavy trailers becomes possible at 19 years, while buses are available only to drivers aged 21 and older.
According to inkorr.com: The age gradation looks as follows:
- Mopeds and motorcycles – available from 16 years
- Passenger cars and ATVs (category B), as well as trucks up to 7.5 tons (category C) – from 18 years
- Vehicles with heavy trailers (categories BE and CE) – from 19 years
- Buses and minibuses – from 21 years
Fines and requirements for a driver's license
There are substantial sanctions for ignoring age requirements. If a person gets behind the wheel without proper documents or allows a child under 16 to drive a vehicle, this can lead to a fine of 3,400 hryvnias. Additionally, to obtain a driver's license, one must successfully pass theoretical and practical exams at the service centers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Let us remind that licenses will not be issued to those who have not reached the established age for a certain category.
Currently, there are increased fines in Ukraine for drivers who operate a vehicle without the appropriate category or while being deprived of their license. Repeated violations can result in a fine of 40,800 hryvnias and a 7-year license suspension.
